Paul was mistaken for an Egyptian
Acts 21-38 Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?
Paul answered back and said that he was a JEW
Acts 21- But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.
The Hebrew Israelites like to use this to show that Paul must have been black in order to have been mistaken for an Egyptian and so as Paul stated he was a Jew then Jews and Egyptians must have looked the same in order for Paul to have be a Jew but mistaken for an Egyptian.
Altogether now…..HOWEVER…..
Just as I showed in my writing regarding Moses when he was called an Egyptian there is simply no inference to colour in this verse. This has to be read into the text. It has to be assumed that the reason he was mistaken for an Egyptian was because of his colour.
The Egyptians by this time were about as multicultural as you could get seeing they had taken in slaves from all over and had been under rule of the Greeks since 332 BC and then the Romans from 30bc. There were also many Jews living in Egypt at the time, both from captivities and freely choosing to reside there.
Notice that the verse talks about “THAT” Egyptian who had made an uproar, “Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar”
Greek word for uproar is ἀναστατώσας anastatōsas a revolt an unsettling,
It is far more likely that Paul, who was going around making a little bit of a stir himself was mistaken for “THAT” Egyptian based on the commotion that he himself was creating while preaching the Gospel to the Jews and Gentiles.
Furthermore we see that Paul ALSO claimed to be a Roman when he was arrested and was to be scourged.
Acts 22-25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?
Does this mean that it also proves the Romans were Black? of course not. Did the Centurion think NO your BLACK you can’t be a Roman? NOPE…. He went straight to the captain and told him Paul was a Roman
Acts 22- 26 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman.
The Captain asked him if he was a Roman to which Paul replied YES.
Acts 22-27 Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea.
To which the Captain was AFRAID for he knew he was a Roman and that he had bounded a ROMAN
Acts 22- 28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born. 29Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.
Using the EXACT same logic that was used to prove Paul was Black we can now make the Romans black as well. If Paul was Black and he could get away with being a Roman then Romans must be black……logic it gets in the way of a good old false teaching.
Of course we know the Romans were not black. Paul was NOT mistaken for an Egyptian and accepted as a Roman based on his skin colour.
