What does salvation is of the Jews mean?

In the gospel of John we find a verse that states that salvation is of the Jews.

John 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

Some people including many Hebrew Israelites believe and teach that this means that only Jews can be saved.

However, a simple look at the verse will show that this is totally incorrect and the verse actually has a totally different meaning.

The word translated of in this verse is the Greek ἐκ ek which means of as in from out of (something)

So salvation is from out of the Jews. Jews is a reference to the Southern Kingdom of Israel which included the tribe of Judah of whom the Jews were named.

Jesus was from the tribe of Judah.

Hebrews 7:14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

Jesus is the saviour

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

So the meaning of John 4:22 is very simple. Jesus is the saviour and came from out of the tribe of Judah so was a Jew.

Salvation, Jesus, is from out of the Jews.
